A general contractor needed to drill anchor bolts into a concrete wall on top of a building in downtown Los Angeles, and knew they needed to locate any other potential findings within the slab such as live conduits and/or post tension cables. Prior to the areas that needed to be concrete scanned / x-rayed, using ground penetrating radar for anchoring and core drilling they contacted the concrete and utility locating specialists in for this high profile project, Ray Ralph of GPRS. On site, GPRS was able to identify the rebar, conduits and post tension cables quickly and accurately. We marked them on the surface of the ground and provided a report explaining the results. GPRS then communicated all findings with the general contractor including information such as the depth and location of the reinforcement. The advantage of radar compared to X-Ray is that radar can locate the rebar, conduits, wire mesh and post-tension cables from one side of the slab, without dangerous radiation. The project was a success and why radar is “The New Way to X-Ray”.
