Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. - GPRS - of California was contacted by a general contractor to locate post tensioned cables and conduit in a parking garage slab within a future office space. The contractor was going to be coring 30 holes through the concrete slab in order to install plumbing and conduits. The contractor planned ahead by hiring GPRS to scan the office space before laying out their core locations. This allowed them to design and plan the office space to avoid conflicts with concrete beams, post tensioned (PT) cables, and electrical conduits. We were able to mark out 3,000 square feet of area in less than one day. GPRS uses ground penetrating radar to scan concrete slabs and we can mark precise rebar, cable, and conduit locations on the concrete. Unlike X-Ray, GPR does not emit any dangerous radiation and needs access to only one side of the slab.
